Supporters of Domestic Partner Benefits:

HF 1097 & SF 0960 were introduced on Monday.  This bill will allow for a modified definition of "dependent" for employee benefits of local government officers and employees. In this bill, the word "dependents" is defined as: spouse and minor unmarried children under the age of 18 years, dependent students under the age of 25 years actually dependent upon the employee, and others as defined by governmental units at their discretion. This legislation is expected to be used to allow the cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul to offer domestic partner benefits to same-sex couples.
