A Message From MFC Leadership
Greetings!
Today, there is a growing uneasiness among Minnesotans about the direction our state and nation are headed. There is growing anxiety about millions of abortions, the decline of marriage, family breakdown and the resulting increase in poverty, crime in our communities, poor educational performance, rising health care costs, expanding government control, and increasing restrictions on the expression of faith in the public square.
On top of all this is the growing loss of confidence in our elected government officials and their ability to address our nation’s problems, and a troubling recognition that our government is moving away from the moral and spiritual foundation on which it was established. Thus, many people are experiencing an increasing sense of helplessness and pessimism about the world in which their children and grandchildren will grow up.
We at the Minnesota Family Council believe there are answers to our state and national problems. In order to restore health, stability and prosperity to families, our communities, state and nation, we must reexamine the principles upon which our nation was built, and engage in the public square to uphold and advance those principles.
Our founding fathers clearly believed our liberties and republican form of government were rooted in the inalienable rights derived from “the laws of nature and nature’s God.” For them, our system of government, our freedoms, our culture, and our very way of life were rooted in biblical principles – in a biblical worldview. Restoring these biblical worldview roots is the key to solving the problems our state and nation face.
In addition, the family, founded on God’s design for marriage as the union of a man and a woman, is the first level of government and is critically important to the well being of society. The family is the most foundational depositor and transmitter of values from one generation to the next. As James Wilson, signer of both the Declaration of Independence and the United States Constitution, said, “The family is the principal of the community…As its establishment is the source, so its happiness is the end, of every institution of government which is wise and good.”
With the generous support of our loyal partners and the strength that God supplies, we work to promote these principles in the media, courts, legislature and communities across the state of Minnesota. We seek to be not only a champion of the family and the biblical values by which it thrives, but also to equip and mobilize Minnesotans to be faithful citizens – faithful to exercise the rights and responsibilities of citizenship, based on the biblical principles of their faith – for the glory of Christ and the good of society.
We believe that by working together, with God’s help, we can turn around our state. And we must. Our children’s and their children’s future depend upon it. We invite you to join with us in this exciting and vitally important mission to recapture a bright and positive future for our children and our state.
With warm regards,
