MINNEAPOLIS – Tom Prichard, president of the Minnesota Family Council (MFC), today announced that over two hundred people have contacted Lutheran Social Service of Minnesota (LSS) this week raising concerns over its promotion of gay adoptions. The concerns were first raised by the MFC in an e-mail to its supporters.
“It’s surprising the LSS and ELCA would promote gay adoption,” said Prichard. “Not only does this conflict with the traditional Lutheran position on homosexuality, but the evidence is overwhelming that having both a mother and father is best for children.” LSS is one of the major outreach ministries of the six Minnesota synods of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). “Adoption should be focused on what is best for children,” added Prichard. “Children need a mother and a father, something inherently missing in a homosexual couple.” In response to over 200 messages sent from concerned Minnesotans, LSS removed from its web page the listing of a lesbian couple as prospective adoptive parents. “Beyond just removing the listing, LSS should openly state what its policy is on homosexual adoptions,” said Prichard. “Was the web page listing removed because LSS is reconsidering its position on gay adoptions, or merely trying to hide from the issue?” “The ELCA of Minnesota cannot distance itself from this controversy,” concluded Prichard. “The ELCA through its oversight of the LSS is complicit in the promotion of gay adoption.” |
