MINNEAPOLIS – A seminar sponsored by the Minnesota Family Institute (MFI), the education subsidiary of the Minnesota Family Council, has sparked overwhelming interest in the Detroit Lakes area – and raised the alarm of homosexual activists. The MFI’s “SOS: Save Our Students” is designed to alert parents, educators, and other concerned citizens to homosexual activism in public schools and to show them how to address it. “The issue here isn’t tolerance or addressing harassment. We can all agree that students shouldn’t be harassed or physically intimated for any reason. But what’s happening is these concerns are used to promote acceptance of homosexual behavior and a pro-homosexual perspective on sexuality among young, impressionable school children.” said MFC President Tom Prichard. “Parents and other concerned community members have legitimate moral, ethical and health concerns about efforts to promote a pro-homosexual ideology in the schools.”
Over 170 individuals have registered for the seminar, scheduled for Saturday, April 24th, 9 a.m.– 12:30 p.m. at the Minnesota State Community and Technical College in Detroit Lakes. Prichard said that the overwhelming interest demonstrates increasing concern over efforts to promote acceptance of the homosexual lifestyle. “Efforts to redefine morality and understandings of sexuality and marriage is evident not only in the national debate over homosexual marriage but also in our public schools. Parents have every right to insure that their children are not indoctrinated into sexual ideologies which directly contradict their moral and religious convictions,” said Prichard. “Our SOS program gives concerned adults the information they need to counter homosexual activism in their schools. It also traces the roots of same-sex attraction and shows how the community can help bring hope and healing to young people who are experiencing sexual confusion.” Interest in the seminar has raised the alarm of the area’s gay activists, including the Detroit Lakes SOHR (Sexual Orientation and Human Rights) group. A press release by SOHR challenged a key element of the SOS seminar -- that people can leave the homosexual lifestyle. The SOS seminar includes speakers who have successfully left the homosexual lifestyle, as well as counselors who have helped gays and lesbians struggling with their homosexual desires. “We welcome a broader discussion of the issues surrounding homosexual activism in the public schools,” he added. “We firmly believe if people hear all the facts about the moral, social and health implications of homosexuality, they will see that true compassion compels one to provide an alternative to the embracing of homosexuality, bisexuality and transgenderism. Ultimately, this will benefit students and families throughout Minnesota.” |
