Tom Prichard is Available for Interviews on the Impact that Re-Defining Marriage in Minnesota will have on Local Schools, Churches, Businesses, and Taxpayers

MINNEAPOLIS – Tom Prichard, president of the Minnesota Family Council (MFC) is available for media interviews on the local impact if the Defense of Marriage Amendment (DOMA) is not passed by the Minnesota Senate when the Minnesota Legislature
adjourns Monday.

Monday is also the day Massachusetts has declared it will start issuing marriage licenses to homosexuals, who could then come to Minnesota and demand the courts honor their marriage licenses by declaring Minnesota’s marriage laws unconstitutional and overturning previous court cases.

“Redefining marriage will have a direct impact on local schools, churches, businesses, taxpayers, and the community’s values,” explained Prichard. “Many people do not realize how significantly their lives will be affected by a re-definition of marriage.”

“Marriage is too important not to let the people vote on a Defense of Marriage Amendment,” added Prichard. “Voters who are concerned about protecting marriage should immediately call DFL senators and urge them to allow the marriage amendment to be voted on.”

DOMA passed with bipartisan support in the Minnesota House and is currently being blocked by DFL Senate leaders. DOMA was created as a response to judicial efforts to challenge state marriage laws as unconstitutional. DOMA would allow voters to decide on the definition of marriage rather than judges. If passed by voters, DOMA would define marriage as between one man and one woman.
