Parent banished from Monticello school seeks help from MFC
Mother of three banned from school property after classroom visit

A Monticelo parent banned from her children's schools after she expressed concerns about a health class is pursuing legal action. Leila Shurts contends the district did not allow her to tell her side of the story before banning her from school property and school events for approximately six months. Her story received statewide attention from print and electronic media following a news release sent by the Minnesota Family Council (MFC) and is raising concerns among other parents who want to be closely involved in their children's education. MFC also put Shurts in touch with legal counsel to explore possible remedies. Continue...

Local librarian enlists public support in battling Internet porn

In February, 47 employees of the Minneapolis Public Library signed a letter published in the Star Tribune asking for the public's help in solving the problem of Internet pornography at the central downtown library. The non-profit group was founded in the early 1990s with a grant from the Minneapolis Foundation. Since then, District 202 has grown into a large organization funded by several hundreds of thousands of dollars from private contributors and, yes, the government. Continue...

How to protect your children from pro-homosexuality propaganda

There are many actions you can take to protect children from pro-homosexuality propaganda in schools.

First, realize that you are not alone. If "gay"-affirming programs in your child’s school have not caused controversy, it is most likely because few parents are aware of them. Many parents will be shocked to learn that their moral and religious beliefs are being undermined by the schools to which they entrust their children. Your first goal must be to inform as many parents as you can about the problem.Continue...

More on the Health Education Conference: Workshops on "diversity," puberty cause concern

by Barb Anderson

Health educators, nurses and college students preparing to be teachers gathered at the Radisson South Hotel in Bloomington February 7-8 for the annual Minnesota School Health Education Conference, where they participated in workshops on topics such as nutrition, HIV/AIDS and STDs. While many of the sessions offered excellent information on healthy lifestyles, in the area of sexuality some extreme methods and materials were presented and encouraged for classroom use. Last month, the Pro-Family News reported on two of these workshops. Following is a summary of two of the other sessions held during the conference: Continue...
