Primaries are intra-party elections that determine which party candidates will appear on the ballot in November general elections. This offers eligible citizens the opportunity to vote for their preferred candidates and make their voices heard! Primary early voting opened on June 29th and will run through August 14th. Now is the perfect time to turn the lights on in Minnesota by voting according to your faith in primary elections today! Minnesotans have the opportunity this year to elect Christ-centered servant leaders to public office, and we need you to take part and make sure your preferred candidates are listed on ballots in November.

Follow these three steps to make your voice heard during this primary election season!

  1. Register. Visit the Minnesota Secretary of State’s website to find eligibility information and register online to vote. The deadline to pre-register is July 24th, but you can always register at your polling place on the day of the primary - August 14th.

  2. Learn. Once you have registered to vote, please take time to review your sample ballot and learn more about the candidates who are running for election. The Star Tribune article, "Who's Running for Minnesota's Major Political Offices in 2018?" has a list of the major state elections, short candidate bios, and links to campaign websites. In addition, a complete list of state and federal elections can be found on the Minnesota Secretary of State's webpage.

  3. Vote. Vote early, vote absentee, or vote in person at your local polling place on primary election day! Click here to find out how to vote early. Click here for additional details on absentee voting. Click here to find out how to vote in in person on primary election day, August 14th.

Take time to get out and shine as lights by voting for Christ-centered candidates in the Minnesota primary election this year!
