Statement from Jeff Evans, MFC’s CEO
Once again, with a heavy heart, I’m searching for the right words to talk about a horrible situation. The assassination of Charlie Kirk yesterday, the grief we all feel for his wife Erika and their two children, and the myriad of questions surrounding yesterday’s events are almost too much.
The sorrow is only compounded with all we’ve experienced in Minnesota the last couple months.
I never had the opportunity to meet Charlie, but I will have that chance someday. At that time, I’ll be able to tell him “thank you” for his tireless work and robust example of what it means to be a Christian conservative. And I’d like to assure Charlie we didn’t squander what he was able to impart to our country in the thirty-one years the Lord gave him.
When that day comes, I’ll explain how his joyful courage in the face of opposition wasn’t lost on us. Faithful Christian witness and action in the public square does not need to apologize or kowtow to its detractors. Believers in Jesus Christ have something good to offer everyone in good faith. And we are commanded by the King of kings to share this.
Charlie, you modeled this wonderfully and strengthened all of us.
Accordingly, I’ll tell him I was proud he embraced being a man and all that goes with it. He took initiative, contended against lies, inspired others, pursued a wife, and loved being a husband and father. Living as a faithful Christian man was more important to him than his public persona. Or better, it was the very basis for his public persona.
Charlie, this is one of the reasons why you were so relatable, sincere, effective, and (unfortunately) hated.
Finally, friends, I’ll thank Charlie for reviving youthful passion to be personally involved, intellectually engaged, and tirelessly fruitful in love for the country God has given us. I’m more thankful to be an American because of Charlie Kirk. And I believe my grandchildren will be blessed because of Charlie’s work.
Charlie, I salute you. Freedom is costly. Patriot.
Here in Minnesota, we can’t afford to dishonor Charlie by backing down or running away from the challenges in front of us. God has called us to faithfulness in this life, even in the dark times we live in. Let’s lean in together with the grace of God so that we might someday boast, like Charlie, before the throne of grace for all eternity.
Keep Erika, their two children, and their close friends and family in your prayers. And continue to pray for our country on this, the twenty-fourth anniversary of 9/11.
Our God is rich in mercy and eager to answer the prayers of all who call out to Him in humility and faith.
